Sri Lankan Army captured Kokawil and Periyakulam

Troops of Sri Lanka Army 57 division have been able to captured Kokavil one of the LTTE base stations on 1st of December. After 18 years of LTTE captivity, Sri Lankan army troops captured Kokavil and gained full control over this area. Sri Lankan army troops launched an offensive early last morning extending their forward boundaries towards east of the A-9 (Jaffna-Kandy) road. Infantrymen of the 57 division first reached the A-9 at a location few kilometers north of the Kokavil town and then turned the thrust southwards destroying all remaining LTTE strongholds down to Mankulam.

On 2nd of December, Sri Lanka Army 59 Division soldiers extended their full domination over the Periyakulam hamlet, situated 4 km East of strategically located Nadunkerni town. In the mean while army help the civilians under terror clutches to move into the government controlled areas, by making safe areas to move. 59 Division were also engaged in heavy confrontations with the terrorists in the Alampil area during daytime.
